Chetumal, Mexico initially wasn't my favorite place to stop just after sunset, but an overnight was necessary before a bus would take us across the border to Belize. It rained all night and I woke up to a spider bite on the back of my thigh, something that kept growing as the morning progressed. I wasn't in the best of spirits, especially since I had just spent a few wonderful days in Tulum, soaking up all its Mayan ruins and wading in its turquoise waters. Now, I was dreading the decision to leave, having to change currency, language, and new found comfort foods.
As we started walking to the bus station I discovered what a picturesque little town Chetumal was. With the clouds slowly passing and the breeze blowing the tops of the palm trees I forgot about the itch on my thigh and snapped this of the Fara de Chetumal, the town's lighthouse.
I plan to return to Chetumal one day to give it more than a quick 8 hour layover. I'm sure it will impress me like it did in two minutes that one morning.
