The two-story spruce Erskine House shelters this exceptional collection focusing on the Russian era (1741–1867) and the later wave of U.S. settlers. Also known as the Russian-American Magazin, the 1808 landmark is Alaska’s oldest surviving building and the earliest-documented log structure on the west coast. Here the Kodiak Historical Society showcases scrimshaw alongside Orthodox icons, an iron bust of Czar Alexander I and sealskin money printed by the Russian-American Company in the 1820s.
