Burgundy is one of my favorite places in France, but going wine tasting at the famed Domaines isn’t always that easy, especially if you planned the trip on a whim, as many are by appointment only. I recommend hitting up the fabulous wine bars in the medieval city of Beaune. Bar du Square, just outside the walled city, is one of my favorites. It’s a local hangout where you’ll see winemakers eating pissaladière and sipping wine with their families. Inside, daily by the glass offerings like Puligny-Montrachet, Saint-Véran, Mâcon, and Saint-Roman are scrawled on a chalkboard and no you’re not seeing a mirage. These are among the best wines in the world and typically all are well under 10 euros a glass. Afterwards, continue your crawl by going to Bistro du Coin and La Dilettante.
