Bánh mì Phượng

Bahn Mi in Hoi An
Hoi An is known for Bahn Mi and it would be a shame to not try a sandwich while visiting. Compared to Bahn Mi in the US- which I find almost always beckons to be slathered in Hoisin and Sriracha, the Bahn Mi here is tasty and flavorful on its own. The most popular place in Hoi An is Bahn Mi Phuong and rightfully so, it's lauded by locals, TV personalities and travelers alike. When you're asked you if you want your sandwich spicy, just say yes - it means they will be adding a delicious umami rich sauce that is heavy on flavor, but not so much on spice. Bahn Mi Phuong is open early and closes late, but if for some reason you can't make it there, try Madam Khanh. or Phi Bahn Mi.

eat delicious banh mi in the ancient town
There are two famous banh mi shops in Hoi An: Madam Khanh (aka the Banh Mi Queen) and Banh My Phong. Both are delicious and which one is the best is left up to personal preference. Personally, I prefer Madam Khanh, but this place is a very close second.

The line at Banh My Phong can be a little long, but it goes by fast enough. The staff has the art of making banh mi quickly down pat.

All the ingredients in the banh mi at Banh My Phong taste fresh and delicious.
