Great Western Cattle Trail
Also referred to as the Dodge City Trail, the Old Texas Trail and the Western Trail, the Great Western Cattle Trail commenced in the small Texas town of Bandera, northwest of San Antonio, and continued northward through Abilene in West Texas, and all the way up to Belle Fourche, South Dakota. These great Texas cattle trails finally disappeared with the arrival of the then railways. Bandera is today known as the “Cowboy Capital of the World,” and for good reason. You can still enter back into a time long ago at one of Bandera’s dude ranches, where you can go horseback riding, enjoy a chuckwagon meal, and go on a group trail ride.
