Bandera is a quintessential small Texas town, steeped in rodeo tradition and nestled in the lush, rolling hills. There’s a long list of ways to explore cowboy culture here: Take a trail ride, watch an amateur rodeo, visit a dude ranch, or spend the night scooting your boots at the town’s classic honky-tonk, Arkey Blue’s Silver Dollar Saloon. To really take in Bandera County’s verdant landscape, set out a scenic drive through what’s been described as the “Swiss Alps of Texas.” The 85-mile loop will take you over the Medina and Sabinal Rivers and to vistas up to 2,150 feet above sea level.
