Staying caffeinated and warm is my agenda when I'm in Toronto. I like the cozy insides of Balzac's, especially the water front one in the popular Distillery District. They are so inviting in comparison to the brisk spring winds outside. No long lines to wait in, but just busy enough to create a buzz, an urgency to decide if you want that four-berry scone, to sit inside or out. My favorite part of the inside is the usage of old steel advertising plaques to decorate their cafes. I loved the one that read simply: OLD RELIABLE COFFEE. Yes, that is simple and just what I need before heading out to window shop all the little boutiques of the Distillery District.
After having developed an affinity for the Chai Latte, I know consider myself somewhat of a connoisseur. I often think that I have been drinking decent chai lattes, until I visit Balzac's. I have come to the conclusion that theirs is hands-down the best, and somehow enjoying there (as opposed to To-Go) in their cool historic distillery district cafe makes it taste that much better.
