I love birds, so when I heard that there is a great bird park on the island of Bali, I made sure to go. It ended up being my favorite day of the two weeks I spent there. The park provides sanctuary for more than 1000 birds, species not just from Indonesia but also from Latin America and South Africa.
There are fun bird shows and plenty of places to walk around and just see the birds. You can hold and interact with macaws and other parrots. I felt good about being there because the park is clean and well-maintained, and all the birds looked healthy and well taken care of. It didn't leave me with an uneasy feeling (unlike the nearby Elephant Park).
The grounds of the park are beautiful and include traditional Indonesian architecture. There is also a kid-friendly restaurant that overlooks the main part of the park.
If you are driving, you can easily combine this visit with a visit to the nearby Sangeh Monkey Forest.
