The 130-year-old Bale Grist Mill
Tucked into the woods on the west side of Highway 29 between the towns of St. Helena and Calistoga, the Bale Grist Mill, a 130-year-old water-powered mill, is still spinning — grinding grain and polenta between two giant stones. Visit on the weekends when you can see the mill in action and take home a lovely cloth bag of the freshly milled goods.

In September and October, "Mill Days" honors the mill's history as a center of social life with live, period-appropriate music. If you really want to get into it, bust out the bloomers and bonnet— you won't be the only one.
