Tackling the world's steepest street
There's no shortage of spectacular mountain peaks in New Zealand, and a quiet road in the southern city of Dunedin provides the opportunity for gravity-beating exercise before you head for the Southern Alps. As certified by the Guinness Book of World Records, Baldwin St is renowned as the steepest residential street on the planet, and the gradient of 1 in 2.86 (19%) certainly provides a decent workout. Along the way, there are plenty of options for quirky photos to go with your other shot of holding up the Leaning Tower of Pisa. February's annual Baldwin St Gut Buster race attracts runners from around the world, but a more leisurely walk up the 350 meter incline takes around ten minutes.
