Baldwin StreetThere's no shortage of spectacular mountain peaks in New Zealand, and a quiet lane in the southern city of Dunedin provides the opportunity for gravity-beating exercise before you head for the Southern Alps. As certified by Guinness World Records, Baldwin Street is renowned as the steepest residential road on the planet, and with a gradient that tops out at 1 to 2.86 (31 percent), it certainly provides a decent workout. Along the way, there are plenty of options for quirky photos to go with your other shot of holding up the Leaning Tower of Pisa. The summer's annual Baldwin Street Gutbuster race attracts runners from around the world, but a more leisurely walk up the incline takes around 10 minutes.
