The vertical drop at Sun Valley’s Bald Mountain is 3,400 vertical feet, one of the greatest among American resorts (with longest high speed lift on the continent connecting the base to the summit in one shot). If that number is hard to wrap your head around, here are some others. The combined skiable acreage for Bald Mountain and Dollar Mountain is over 2,000 acres, with only a ¼ to an 1/8 of the average numbers of skiers on the mountain per day compared to other major resorts. The longest run is three miles—one of those energizing and challenging mountain runs more commonly found at the Swiss resorts that inspired the creation of Sun Valley than here at home. With wide open and uncrowded slopes and rarely a lift line you’ll be able to get in more runs in a morning than you would in a weekend at other mountains.
