Baiona became the first place in Europe to hear about the New World when Columbus’s ship, the Pinta, landed here in 1493. These days, the pretty little town enjoys its reputation as a summer resort. Visit the replica Pinta, and explore the shops and small cafés on the old town streets inland from the more touristy seafront. The Castelo de Monterreal, perched high above town (it once sheltered townspeople from pirate raids down at sea level), commands beautiful views of the coastline.
