The BabeAt the height of her fame she was world famous as an Olympic Gold Medal winner (javelin and meter hurdles) and as a champion golfer (she won a total of 82 amateur and professional tournaments). In the 1940s and ‘50s she inspired women with her Texan-style love of winning while she competed in tournament after tournament appearing in clothes she designed herself and charming the press with other talents like singing (she even cut records on the Mercury label).
In 1976 her childhood home opened a small but comprehensive museum to her life and achievements, the Babe Didrikson Memorial Museum. The intimate circular art deco styled building houses about a third of Didrikson's medals and trophies as well as press clippings and many other historical mementos of her amazing career.
