Miles from shore, and only accessible by boat or charter flight, Azura Benguerra Island is the perfect place to indulge in Robinson Crusoe with a luxury twist fantasies. The all-inclusive property in on Mozambique’s Benguerra Island, off the coast by Vilanculos, and has just twenty thatched roof villas. It’s also located on a completely deserted white sand which meets turquoise water beach protected within a Marine National Park. The vibe here is all about unplugging and relaxing, but also giving back.
Azura is committed to sustainable practices like responsible fishing, and also participates in ongoing conservation and building projects that help the local community — donations collected through their Rainbow Fund was used to build the island’s school, and the hotel also sponsors a football team and offers English lessons to locals. Guests are encouraged to participate in ongoing projects and interacting with the community.
But you can also spend your time on this isolated island relaxing, swimming or diving in the stunning lagoon or at your private ocean facing infinity swimming pool. Each villa additionally comes with its own pool complete with a teak deck, sun loungers and deck chairs and even a day-bed. They also feature minibars, universal plugs and a selection of books and DVDs for rainy days. They come in a number of sizes with the Presidential Villa being the most massive-- a split-level master suite among its three bedrooms plus a 5-foot-long private swimming pool and a deck with a treehouse lounge. The bathrooms here are beyond incredible, with separate deep soaking bathtubs and rainfall showerheads. Note there are no TVs in the rooms—which is truly a breath of fresh air--but there is complimentary WiFi. You will find a TV in the lounge area, however. Service here is excellent, with private butlers on beck and call to assist.
Relaxing continues at the spa, located near the beach, that offers treatments with local ingredients like African body butters and Marula oil. The spa offers body wraps, massages and facials among its treatments.
Food and drinks are included in the rates here, and the resort has a beachfront restaurant, a bar and lounge and also the option of ordering from room service. Expect lots of fresh fish and mouthwatering seafood.
