Avalon Waterways celebrates food on all its river cruises, offering gourmet menus (both buffet and plated) with regional and international favorites. In 2017, Avalon will add to its current culinary program with the launch of Avalon Fresh, developed in conjunction with Karl and Leo Wrenkh, two of Austria’s culinary rising stars. As part of the program, onboard chefs will get food from local farms and purveyors, and draw from the Wrenkh’s wholesome recipes, many of which craft vegetarian and vegan dishes as creative and complex as those with meat or fish. It’s all part of making it easier for guests to stay on their wellness game while traveling, without sacrificing flavor or indulgence.
While French-inspired dishes are part of all Avalon cruises, guests can delve deeper into the country’s flavorful traditions on Culinary Experience on Paris to Normandy. This specialty cruise, which travels through northern France, balances cultural activities like visits to ancient abbeys, Claude Monet’s gardens, and Napoleon’s former chateau with onboard crepes lunches, wine and cheese tastings, and pastry and chocolate demonstrations. Savoring local delicacies from one destination to the next is a great way to get a taste for France’s nuanced regional differences.
