When AutoZone Park opened in the spring of 2000, it was widely considered to be the best ballpark below the Major League Baseball level.
Fourteen years after that first season for the Redbirds’ home ballpark, it remains one of the best minor league parks in the country. Home of the Triple-A team of the St. Louis Cardinals, the ballpark has played host to numerous players who have gone on to play in the majors. And that has meant much of the Cardinals’ four World Series teams in that period have consisted of players who made their way through AutoZone Park.
The ballpark is one of the most affordable and enjoyable spots for families in Memphis, and is right in the heart of the action Downtown at the corner of Union Avenue and Third Street.
Weekday games usually see plenty of seats available, but arrive early for tickets to a weekend game when crowds near or exceed the park's 14,000-plus capacity. Cheap tickets are available on the grassy bluff above leftfield, adjacent to a playground where there is plenty of space for the kids to roam.
And there is plenty of local barbecue and beer available throughout the concourse.
