Thursday for Art
Two art-driven neighborhoods come alive in the Texas capital on First Thursdays, the first Thursday of every month. One is funky South Congress Avenue (seen here), where galleries such as Yard Dog, exhibiting a range of works from folk to pop art, stay open late and serve wine and cheese. Shops like Tesoros, selling artisan works from Mexico
and India, and Allen’s Boots, which has over 10,000 pairs of cowboy boots to peruse, join in on the late evening action. On West 6th Street, galleries like the Stephen L. Clark, which sells award-winning photographs (many of which depict West Texas scenes) also participate.
