I did a tour through 300-year old Augarten Porzellanmanufaktur in Vienna. The photo is taken from inside a huge brick-built kiln, now part of the site's museum.
My favourite thing was to look a porcelain artist over the shoulder as he put together the pieces for a porcelain bull. We had a nice and very informative chat. The porcelain painters make their own brushes - the most delicate brush has just got ONE hair!
This tour is great for enthusiasts of fine European china and for lovers of traditional craftsmanship.
Tour participants are allowed to shop among the grade II listed products, most of which just have minor defects.
