An evening at the theater takes a trippy twist when guests sit in total darkness and listen to "sound sculptures." The auditory event is an experience, not a performance, and sounds such as music, synthesized tones, or a bubbling stream range from dissonant to soothing and move around the audience via 176 speakers embedded in the walls, floors, and ceiling. The theater looks like a relic from a 1960s space-themed movie set, and the overall effect is at once surreal, fantastical, calming, and odd. The 45-minute odyssey is not for everyone (especially those afraid of the dark), but if you're looking for something unique to San Francisco, if not the world, the $20 entry (cash only) is worth every penny. The "concerts" take place every Friday and Saturday at 8:30 p.m.
