Atlantis Books: A Shop with the Soul of a Traveler and Friend
Nestled along the main stone walkway through the village of Oia is the charming Atlantis Books, a shop with both the adventurous spirit of a traveler and heart of a dear friend.
Created and run by traveling friends, and even staffed by some passing through on their own travels for months at a time, it’s a bookshop that continually braves the elements of Santorini, and is ultimately a place that makes visitors feel not so far away from home.
Always thinking up new ideas and offering more than selling books, they've also hosted festivals and readings on their terrace overlooking the Aegean, and even have their own publishing house, Paravion Press, which began in the back room of the shop itself.
The books published by Paravion Press are printed and stitched editions of favorite short stories, such as those by Katherine Mansfield and Virginia Woolf, and are complete with a front blank correspondence page and envelope to send by mail.
When in Oia, make sure to pop into Atlantis Books. Not only is it simply a good place to read and purchase a book during your travels, but chances are you’ll find pleasant company there to share a conversation with and maybe even a drink or two, amid the shelves and welcoming glow inside all year round.
And before you depart, instead of sending a postcard to your loved one back home, mail them a short story with a handwritten note about the treasured bookshop on one of the most beautiful islands in the world.
