Sledding at Any Age
There is something about sledding down a mountain that doesn’t get old no matter how old you are and Aspen
has some great spots. For children the Mecca is this hill behind the Aspen Recreation Center that has the most perfect pitch and a run out for miles. Bring your own sled, which some hotels provide or you can buy one at Carl’s Pharmacy. Take it out and perform your best impersonation of Chevy Chase in the movie Christmas Vacation. The kids build little jumps on the side for an extra thrill. For adults, it would be a little weird to poach on the children’s hill without kids of your own but don’t worry there is a place for adults too. Walk up Smuggler trail and instead of walking down sled down. I really enjoy going at dusk and getting the nighttime overlook of Aspen and then sledding down in the dark with only your headlamp to guide you.
