Aspen

This Colorado town lives up to its namesake and that makes for incredible scenery any way you turn. However, it was originally named Ute City before becoming Aspen in 1880. In just a decade the silver mining ramped up to it’s peak production only to crash. The ski area started in the 1930s but development was inhibited by World War II. Today, the town is known for high-end shops, celebrity residents, and fancy restaurants. But don’t let that scare you off, there’s plenty for the common man as well. There are four ski areas surrounding town at the top of the Roaring Fork Valley including Buttermilk, Highlands, Snowmass and Aspen itself. Between the four mountains there are 5,505 acres of terrain, 42 lifts (2 of which are gondolas), ski schools, steep slopes, back bowls, and more.
