Sledging slate down screes at Honister Quarry
Honister Quarry is in a fearsome location in the Borrowdale Valley, Lakeland, England, and this photo, which appears in my new book A Lake District Journey, shows how they used to get slate to the Buttermere road for transportation to local seaports. Make sure you visit this awesome place when in the Lakes, it is fantastic and is guaranteed to leave a lasting impression.
