Asa Wright Nature Centre

Spring Hill Estate, PO Box 4710, Arima, Trinidad and Tobago

Thickets of jungle shroud Trinidad’s Northern Range of mountains. Lying at an altitude of around 370 meters (1,200 feet), the Asa Wright Nature Centre is a renowned bird sanctuary on 607 hectares (1,500 acres) of forested land that about 400 species call home. On guided walks, visitors watch a half-dozen species of hummingbirds (like the tufted coquette) feed. Squirrel cuckoos, purple honeycreepers, tropical mockingbirds, toucans and parrots fly around as well. Bright heliconia plants abound and a waterfall adds to the allure.
