arthotel Blaue Gans
Dating back to 1350, Salzburg’s oldest inn is an uber atmospheric and design savvy boutique property in an enviable Old Town location. Vibrant modern art (over 120 original pieces!) is peppered throughout, juxtaposed with original details like vaulted ceilings, old stone walls, wooden ceiling beams, and other remnants of the past that lend the experience of staying here a time traveling flair -- yet one grounded in modernity. Squint a bit over a glass of Grüner Veltliner and a Wiener schnitzel at the hotel’s restaurant and you might as well be back in the olden days, what with the arched ceilings and cozy feel -- but the nouvelle Austrian menu puts a modern-day spin on heritage. There’s also a chic brasserie/bar that serves snacks and light bites alongside a creative drinks list. Bright and airy guest rooms pair crisp white walls and clean-lined furniture with old ceiling beams, wooden floors, and eye-catching art, while the blue rubber ducks in the bathrooms are a sweet nod to the hotel’s name, German for “blue goose.”
