Brazil May 2011
I went to Rio de Janeiro, Salvador, Morro de Sao Paulo (on a whim) and Iguacu Falls. The highlight of my trip was at the Modern Art Museum in Salvador on a balmy Saturday night. A jazz and samba band played to a mostly local and young bohemian crowd on the museum's outside patio overlooking the bay. Vendors served refreshing and refreshingly cheap caipirinhas which loosened up the crowd enough to sway and dance to the lively music into the late night. It was a wonderful evening I stumbled into at the recommendation of a local Bahian.
Another highlight was watching the sun set over Rio from Arpoador, between Leme and Copacabana. It was a lovely experience, watching the surfers while the beach crowds winded down for the day. Couples held hands and cuddled on the rocks and people cheered as the sun tucked itself behind Morro Dois Irmaos.
