Arenes de Lutece
Arenes de LuteceBelieve it or not, there once was a time when Paris was a Roman village and gladiators trained and fought one another. To this day, on the Left Bank, in the 5th arrondissement, are the remaining ruins of an ancient gladiator arena.
Visitors may not notice it right away from the street as one must walk through a 30-foot corridor before coming out to an open park with the remaining battleground. The grounds are open year round and free for visitors to see.
