This fascinating museum is housed in what used to be the Hospital of the Knights of Saint John, a building worthy of a visit in its own right. It features many exhibits of note, including the tombs of knights from the 14th and 15th centuries, which can be found in a grand upstairs gallery, the figure of each individual carved into a stone slab along with his coat of arms. It is also worth seeking out the statue of the crouching Aphrodite of Rhodes, which inspired the writer Lawrence Durrell’s book about the island, Reflections on a Marine Venus.
