In 2011, the Archaeological Museum of Miletus reopened after being closed for years. The artifacts on display here span some 5,000 years. The oldest are from the Neolithic era, while some of the most impressive and beautiful date from the 6th century B.C.E. when Miletus was considered the greatest and wealthiest of the Greek city-states. While most travelers to Kusadasi interested in ancient civilizations will want to see Ephesus, Miletus, an hour to the south, is an appealing and often less crowded alternative.
