The Archaeological Museum of Argostoli contains artifacts from the prehistoric period to the Roman period. It was built to replace the old museum destroyed in an earthquake and was designed by architect Patroklos Karantinos. It includes a collection of Mycenaean treasures, mostly dug up from the Lakkithra cemetery. Other pieces of pottery and jewelry were excavated from Melissani Lake. The mosaic from the temple of Poseidon dating from the second century BC is worth checking out.
