Built between 114 and 117, Benevento's Arch of Trajan has endured for centuries. Interesting depictions of Roman deities and Trajan's military conquests are carved into Parian marble which covers the limestone structure.
The city of Benevento is delightful. The shopping is fantastic (don't go during siesta), and the food divine. The best places to eat are those tucked away in alleys. Plan to spend some time identifying ancient Roman goddesses and gods on the arch. It's a treat and usually not very crowded!
