Experience the charm of an old school fishing village in Apalachicola, a small gulf front town in the Panhandle about 75 miles south of Tallahassee on Florida's Forgotten Coast. Some 90 percent of Florida's oysters are harvested here, and the best thing you can do if you love bivalves is sit down at one of several seafood restaurants in town and settle in for one very fresh feast. Be sure to check out Apalachicola's surprisingly cool range of shops and boutiques, too, where you can find quite a few handmade items as well as collectibles recovered from shipwrecks in the area.
