Anticosti Island

Anticosti Island, L'Île-d'Anticosti, QC G0G, Canada

Only a few hundred people live on Anticosti, which lying at the turbulent mouth of the St. Lawrence River in the Gulf of St. Lawrence has seen shipwrecks galore. Lucky passengers might see moose peeking out from the fir, aspen and spruce forests. Across a strait on the mainland, some 40 islands and 1,000 islets lie in the Mingan Archipelago, famous for wind-carved limestone monoliths and puffins, terns and other nesting seabirds.
