"Tonight You Are My King"
My 15 year old son and I were walking down an alley in Rome
one afternoon and although we had just finished lunch, the aroma from a trattoria was so beguiling he said we must go in and check it out. After a half an hour conversation with the manager, Roberto, who happened to be an expert on American films, we made a reservation for 9:30 that evening. The alley was crowded with chairs and tables, completely occupied, except one conspicuously empty in a primo spot. Upon entering, Roberto beamed and greeted me with, "Welcome, tonight you are my king." Of course we didn't look at a menu and let Roberto just bring food and beverages. Delicious it was. As the evening progressed and diners departed, the chairs and table they had occupied were folded and taken inside. After a period of time, all had departed but us, with Roberto sitting and talking with us until the wee hours of the morning. Considering the food, location, dining with my son in Rome and Robert, it was one of the top three dining experiences of my life. It was, without a doubt, the greatest tiramisu on the planet, so much so, we returned for dessert the next three nights. It's very near Fontana de Trevi. http://www.trattoriatritone.com
