It is a small group of people who can say they have been to Antarctica - stepped foot on the continent, spent an afternoon with penguins and leopard seals or sipped bourbon in a glass filled with polar ice. The field narrows much, much further for those of us who have had the opportunity to strap skis on our feet and carve arcs in the pristine snow of Antarctica. I had this opportunity recently when I traveled to Antarctica with Adventure Life on board the Akademik Ioffe. I will never forget the moment when I stood on top of this hill with my group of fellow adventurers. What you can't see in this photo is the gaggle of Adelie Penguins to the left of us. Though we kept a respectful distance, the highlight of my trip was skiing in the most pristine location on earth surrounded by abundant wildlife that were completely unperturbed by our presence.
