Seeing penguins in the wild is one of the major draws for travelers to Antarctica. And since the frozen continent is home to massive colonies of Gentoo, Adelie, and chinstrap penguins, visitors have plenty of chances to see the (sometimes hilarious) daily doings of these birds. Depending on the season, they might have front-row seats to displays of penguin socializing, mating, parent-child bonding, and mischief (as when they steal stones from one another to make their nests).
While observing wildlife from the deck of a ship is great if you have a zoom lens, it’s much more rewarding to get close. All Lindblad Expeditions-National Geographic Antarctica journeys include excursions on foot, kayaks, and Zodiacs.
