Gentoo Penguins

The gentoo is the third-largest species of penguin after its two giant cousins, the emperor penguin and the king penguin. The gentoo is distinguished from other related birds by the wide white stripe that extends like a bonnet across the top of its head and by its bright orange-red bill. Gentoos also have pale whitish-pink webbed feet and the most prominent tail of any penguin; as the gentoo waddles along on land, its tail sticks out behind, sweeping from side to side. Native to the Antarctic Peninsula, populations of the penguin have decreased substantially in recent years due to the effects of global warming.
