Spectacular Romanesque Cathedral
The Poitou-Charentes region of France has some wonderful Romanesque churches. Pre-dating Gothic architecture, they're full of carvings of fantastical beasts. The facade on this church (Cathédrale Saint-Pierre d'Angoulême) faces west, and lights up late in the day as the sun gets low.
