Amansala Eco-Chic Resort

Boca de paila Km 5.5, 77766 Tulum, Q.R., Mexico

Rustic luxury is the vibe at Amansala, where all accommodations are cabana-style. How rustic? Well, lights go out at 11 each night, after which time candles provide illumination. Ocean breezes do the work that is relegated to air-conditioners at less eco-conscious hotels. Rooms are decorated with locally sourced materials, including driftwood and stones. Candles and incense are in-room amenities. The idea, says owner Melissa Perlman, is for guests to feel that they’re staying at a friend’s home rather than an anonymous hotel where they’re just a room number. The hotel also hosts yoga retreats several times throughout the year, as well as detox cleanse packages and “Bikini Bootcamp” intensives for guests who want to get in shape.

Recharging at Amansala

On the beach in Tulum, Amansala is a rustic and low-key place to stay and eat. I’m here on my second annual yoga retreat—three hours of yoga in the morning and an hour-and-a-half of Pilates in the evening. The food is fresh, healthy, and nourishing. Think herbal teas, simple fish tacos, and jicama and black bean salads.

Amansala Eco Chic Resort

Tulum is a must visit place in Mexico. It is about an 1.5 hours from Cancun, has beautiful beaches, great weather and is a perfect place for a week long get away. I stayed at Amansala and loved it! It is right on the water, the rooms are big, it has a great yoga room that looks out to the ocean and amazing food! I went with a yoga retreat and had a wonderful experience! The photo is a picture from the water looking up to the property.

Biking Tulum

Biking is a great way to get around Tulum. I rented bikes almost everyday I was there and used them to go to the ruins, wander through the town to look at the various shops and even took it them to a nature park reserve and found a private beach. I also recommend stopping at all the boutiques along the road...they are filled with authentic goods such as jewelry, clothes and soaps and each one has its own unique character!

Good Morning Sunshine

While in Tulum you have to wake up early to watch the sunrise! I did this a few times during the week I was there and it is a magical experience--really makes you appreciate this beautiful world we live in!

Soaring

The ocean in Tulum is beautiful! It has great waves, the water is the perfect temperature for swimming and also seems to be a great place for kite surfing as the ocean in Tulum is filled with kite surfers. They soar over the water often times doing flips and high jumps. It is incredible to watch them and you are sure to see many of them throughout the day. I didn’t take any lessons (although I would have loved to) but as you walk up and down the beach in Tulum there are a number of companies that offer lessons.
