Aman Shanghai
It literally took a village to create Aman Shanghai. Over the last decade, 50 Ming and Qing dynasty houses and 10,000 ancient camphor trees from mountain communities endangered by the construction of a reservoir were painstakingly relocated to a 100-acre swath of land just minutes from downtown Shanghai. The 44 villas, private gardens, a spa, and six dining venues offer an alternative to city skyscrapers. Rates not yet available.

From the January/February 2017 issue.
