One of Andalucía’s great contributions to architectural history, the Alhambra in Granada is a complex of fortresses, palaces and gardens with orange trees and splashing fountains that is so spectacular it’s easy to forget that the city has plenty of other monuments. Among other must-see sights are the fine cathedral and the Alcaicería area of ancient alleyways lined with tiny shops. A windy, cobblestoned street along the Darro River, the Carrera del Darro, is a popular spot for walking.
