Home to both art and history exhibits, this museum, set in Old Town, is a great jumping-off point to visit the Duke City. The history collection includes more than 26,000 artifacts and images documenting the evolution of the Rio Grande Valley and Albuquerque, which was founded in 1706. The permanent art collection, presented in "Common Ground: Art in New Mexico," features significant works by the likes of Georgia O'Keeffe. Revolving art exhibitions highlight jewelry items, such as the bolo tie, the official state tie; photography; and other mediums. Plan at least a couple hours to explore this museum, and don't miss the outdoor sculpture garden. The amphitheater here is home to a summer concert series, Salsa Under the Stars.
