Visiting Granada? Forget the Alhambra and its divine proportions. Scope out some more humble digs in the Caves of San Miguel Alto, a rugged area just outside the city that houses over 200 hippies. That's right: they're cave dwellers. If you're open-minded and not averse to the lack of running water, you can spend some time getting to know how this community of hippies lives. As you'd imagine they're pretty open to people looking for something "different" on their travels.
Not ready to make the trek into the great unknown? (Well, that's actually wise -- San Miguel Alto is also known for thieves and drug addicts). Get to know this same hip community of musicians, street performers, and artisans by spending an afternoon in Granada's street markets, located in the Albaicín, the traditional Muslim quarter.
