I spent one morning exploring the reefs of Akumal, just a short drive from Tulum. As our knowledgeable guide, Nick explained to us before we submerged ourselves to swim with sea turtles up to five feet in size, the reefs with all of their gorgeous nooks, barracudas the length of myself and large rainbow fish, created sea water with a much high salt concentration. While this helped to make our water excursion favorably buoyant, it left us with the taste of sea water in our mouths. To refresh our palates before our next adventure, Nick took us to a small magical store just up the road from Akumal where we were delighted to see a refrigerator filled with natural fruit juice popsicles. We all gathered around the cooler that was completely filled with these home made treats, covered only with small plastic sandwich baggies as wrapper. I opted for the coconut, which was rich and creamy, and when I was done I strongly considered going back for another.
