Akaroa Museum
Akaroa is distinct in New Zealand for having a strong French influence in addition to the more usual British one. Discover why at the Akaroa Museum, set in the charming Langlois-Eteveneaux Cottage. Built in the 1840s, it is one of the oldest surviving houses in Canterbury. Exhibitions are currently limited while the cottage is being refurbished, but there is a beautiful collection of carved wooden furniture and a short documentary about Akaroa's history shown in the old courthouse, another part of the museum.
