Aisne-Marne American Cemetery and Memorial

A Prayer for the Missing Soldiers of Belleau
1,060 soldiers were never recovered after the first major American engagement in World War I.

A chapel at the Aisne-Marne American Cemetery commemorates the unknown as well as the 2,289 who lost their lives durring the battle.

The names of the missing are inscribed on the inside walls of the chapel rising on a gentle hill above the graves:

"The names recorded on these walls are those of American Soldiers who fought in the region and who sleep in unknown graves."

Belleau is about an hour from Paris either by car on the A-4, or via train to Chateau-Thierry from Gare de l'Est and a six-mile taxi ride to the memorial.
