Marble Tables and Roman Ambience
A Trastevere institution since 1933, Ai Marmi is a local hangout and exactly what you’d expect in a neighborhood pizzeria- no frills, lots of character and good, thin-crust Roman pizza. This is the kind of place to hit for an authentic Roman vibe; it helps that alongside the pizza selection, the menu sticks with city favorites. In other words, the requisite line up of fritti: fried cod, fried zucchini flowers, and supplì, mozzarella-filled fried rice balls. By the way, no one calls it Panattoni, its official name. For Romans it is either “ai Marmi” (the marbles) or “l’oblitorio” (tombstone) thanks to those characteristic long marble slabs that top the family-style tables.
