After an entire weekend of kite flying during the Uttarayan festival in January, every neighborhood was littered with kite remnants.
The competitions during the festival involve kite strings coated in a sharp glaze of glass shards to help slice through the skies with stunning precision. Cutting down a neighbor's kite resulted in shouts of jubilee - "Lapet!" all night long!
If you're able to experience this festival, head into the old town and join families on the rooftop as you drink spicy hot chai and snack on the sweet and savory delights! Don't be surprised if you see small children charging across rooftops in hot pursuit of a falling kite!
