Juneteenth in Dallas/Fort Worth
There are plenty of ways to celebrate this holiday in the North Texas Metroplex. The multi-day Juneteenth festivities in downtown Fort Worth include a parade, a music fest, a Miss Juneteenth pageant, a 5K walk/run, art and history exhibits and more, while in Mosier Valley (near DFW airport), the Juneteenth Celebration takes place in a community founded by former slaves Robert and Dilsie Johnson, along with ten other emancipated slave families. Dallas's annual Juneteenth Festival is held at the city's MLK Center and includes live music, food, games and vendors. Dallas's African-American Museum (seen here) is another smart stop for Juneteenthers, as the collection of African American artistic, cultural and historical objects is the only one of its kind in the Southwest, and is also the largest African American Folk Art collection in the U.S.
