This villa, about ten kilometers south of Corfu Town, was built by Elizabeth of Bavaria, the Empress of Austria, in the late 19th century. It was dedicated to and inspired by the virtues represented by the Greek hero Achilles, statues of whom decorate the extensive gardens. Depending on your taste, the building itself is either an intriguing blend of the Germanic and Classical traditions, or a dreadful mishmash. Either way it’s worth a visit.
